I spent a year dreaming up a closet and enjoyed every minute of it before I sold that house 🙂 But stay tuned because I am already getting to dream up the next closet in the home we moved into last fall!
My requirements:
- Hampers – I need a spot to put my dirty clothes because I don’t have an official laundry room (it’s more of a nook) and you need to have spots that are convenient for the day to day things!
- Dresser replacement – my bedroom has a dresser currently, but I really want to be able to sell it and use that space for workout equipment! I have a bike and a walking treadmill in my room! Having a space to replace my dresser was a must! Plus, my room has windows. I really need to stop walking around half dressed because it’s probably on my neighbor’s ring cams…
- Storage space – You only get so many opportunities to create storage space in your home! I wasn’t going to miss this one!
- Room to grow – you should never look to build a closet for exactly what you have now! You need to think forward into what you need. This might mean getting rid of some clothes too!
- Luxury – I wanted to do this once and be done and was willing to work for it. The closet has soft close drawers and doors, a little built-in lighting and I upgraded the wood to have a linen texture. The gold pulls were the icing on the closet.
Originally, I planned to build this out myself. Between working full time as a director and executive account manager, raising and kid, running a wellness business and online social media account, I decided I should hire someone instead. I shopped around before I landed on who would do this, though.
I talked to Closets by Inspire, The Container Store and California Closets. At the end of the day, the customizations that I wanted to do were most available with California Closets! They all off in home design experiences, but California Closets allows you to see the rendering of your closet on a computer software while they are here. It meant I could tweak and change things and see what it would look like in real time! When you are making this large of an investment, it’s a big deal to really be able to envision the closet!
I cannot say enough how impressed I was with the communication and customer service the whole way through! I could text Adam (he designed the closet with me) and he would give me updates if I had any questions! The install took two days and the guys that installed it were kind and professional! I felt totally fine even leaving to get my kid while they were here working on the install.
Sometimes you live in a home that is temporary and you look forward to the next place. Other times, you look around and think about how you can make your current space a long-term home! That’s where I am there days and it’s been a journey to get here! It’s been a good lesson in slowing down, waiting for what you want and really cherishing what you have!
I had already purchased on a killer sale the steamer Air Dresser from Samsung! It’s the mirror that you see below and has multiple hangers inside for you to put clothes for a steam, sanitize or dry clean cycle!
You can see the details of the closet on Instagram here!

I am excited to take the learnings that I had here and put them into the next closet build out in 2026!
